In Aachen, Coleman and Diabolo, a 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding owned by the Diabolo Group, were also the highest-placed U.S. pair in fourth individually. Shortly after that result, Coleman went back overseas with Very Dignified to finish seventh in the Defender Burghley CCI5*, and after he returned home from that adventure, he rode Box Como to an Advanced-level win at The Fork International Three-Day Event in Tryon, North Carolina.
In today’s podcast, Coleman tells us about his very busy—and successful—spring and summer seasons, how he balances family life with an upper-level eventing string, why he loves pure show jumping, and why he thinks horses and humans are positive influences on each other’s lives.
About Will Coleman
Will Coleman started his international eventing career winning an individual gold medal at the 2001 FEI North American Youth Championships, and then he competed at his first Olympic Games in 2012 in London with Twizzel.
Coleman made history in 2021 when he rode Off The Record to win the CCIO4*-S at the CHIO Aachen, becoming the first American to ever win the prestigious event. In 2022, also with Off The Record, he was the highest-placed U.S. rider at the 2022 FEI Eventing World Championships in Italy, helping the team there win silver.
Diabolo was selected for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, but Coleman had to withdraw him shortly beforehand due to a poorly timed hoof abscess. They were able to come back and win in Kentucky this spring, in what was the horse’s first five-star.
Will and his wife Katie, also a professional eventer and dressage rider, operate Will Coleman Equestrian from farms in Virginia and Florida.
